When & Where to Vote in the San Antonio Runoff Election- A Student’s Guide!

This San Antonio mayoral and city council election is likely to be one of the most defining ones in recent memory. There were a plethora of open seats and dozens of people vying for each position. Now in the runoff election, getting to the polls effectively may seem like a challenging task for many residents. Municipal elections often have incredibly low turnout rates, meaning your vote matters more than ever

Planning ahead of time is vital to making sure you’re not choosing between summer fun and expressing your voice!

To make sure you’re prepared, we recommend checking with the Bexar county elections department to find out where your closest polling location is. Most importantly, don’t procrastinate! You have just a few more days of Early Voting (thru June 3) and then Election Day on Saturday, June 7.

Once you’re set on a date we recommend double checking to see if you’re registered to vote in Bexar County. You can also do this through the Bexar County Elections website. This will also pull up your personal ballot so that you know exactly what you’re voting on in this election! Just click on the link “Your Individual Sample Ballot.”

We suggest you make a plan to vote with a family member or friend. Grab a taco beforehand and chat about how excited you are to vote!

There are different vote centers for early voting and Election Day. Many vote centers are at neighborhood public schools, libraries and community centers. There might even be a vote center at your high school campus.

What is early voting?

Early voting is a convenient option that is available to all Bexar County voters. Early voting is recommended as lines are likely to be less crowded, if there is one at all. Early voting runs from May 27th to June 3rd. For the mayoral and city council runoff election, there are 33 vote centers during Early Voting (map of vote centers).

Bexar county registered voters can vote at ANY vote center in Bexar County during early voting or Election Day. This is called county-wide voting.

Election Day

Saturday, June 7 is Election Day for our municipal runoff election. There will be 184 vote centers throughout Bexar County. All 184 vote centers will be open from 7 am to 7 pm.

Remember: As long as you are in line by 7 pm, you can still vote. But try to get there well before the polls close just to be sure!

What’s on your ballot

Before you go it’s important to make sure you know what’s on your ballot, which is based on the address where you are registered to vote. If you live in San Antonio city limits, you will be eligible to vote for the mayoral candidate of your choice. If you live in San Antonio City Council districts 1, 6, 8, or 9, you will also be able to vote in the runoff for your city council representative. Here is the sample ballot for the runoff election, but you’ll only vote for the races that apply to you.

What you’ll need to vote

To vote at your chosen location you need one of seven forms of ID, a full list is available at VoteTexas.gov. For most residents a drivers license will be the best choice. Now you’re finally ready to vote!
