Poll Worker compensation starts at $15/hr

Get Involved As A Bexar County Poll Worker!

The first step in the process is to complete the  Youth Do Vote Election Clerk Interest Form!

The information you provide will help the Youth Do Vote team determine which vote centers will be more convenient for you and how to match you with an election judge.

Serve as an Election Clerk

Once a student reaches the age of 18, they may work as a regular Election Clerk. Each vote center is generally staffed with a Presiding Election Judge, Alternate Election Judge, and at least one Election Clerk. View the requirements and job descriptions of position below!

Election Clerk

Receives training and assignments from the Election Judge

Alternate Judge

Guards the purity of the Election and steps in as judge when the Presiding Election Judge is not available.

Presiding Judge

Administers the election in accordance with the Texas Election Code.

In-person:

In-person training is at Bexar County Elections Department. 

 
Online option:

**Once you complete the online training, email a copy of your certificate of completion to eltraining@bexar.org. Also, keep a copy for your records. Should you complete the online training you do NOT need to attend the face-to-face training.

Election Clerk

Job Description

Primary Duty

  • Receives training and assignments from the Election Judge

 

Requirements and Responsibilities

  • Must be a registered voter in Bexar County
  • Called to duty by Judge
  • Not required, but is encouraged to attend certification class and/or information classes for particular election

Alternate Judge

Primary Duties

  • To guard the purity of the Election
  • To step in as judge when the Presiding Election Judge is not available

 

Requirements and Responsibilities

  • Registered voter in the precinct in which you are to serve
  • Attend certification class and pass test by 70% (approximate time to completion: 8 hours)
  • Remain certified by taking a test every two years and passing with a 70% score
  • Class attendance before the election, when applicable
  • Visit vote center the day before the election
  • Pick up of supplies at the Elections Warehouse, when applicable
  • Return the supplies the night of the election to a designated Regional Sending Site, when applicable

You cannot be judge if:

  • You hold an elected office. (Precinct Chairman is not considered as an elected office.)
  • You are a candidate for office in that election.
  • You are a campaign treasurer of a candidate in that election
  • You are a campaign manager of a candidate in that election.
  • You are an employee or relative of an opposed candidate in that election
